Make the Weekend Count

Make the Weekend Count

Last week, I discovered the hilarious Westin campaign “You Need Better Vacation Days”. They created an “Out of Office Generator” that comes up with really witty, hilarious automated email responses for you to set before you leave the office and they are so funny!

I got to thinking and took their initiative to the next level. We don’t have unlimited PTO days or a money tree that allows us to get out of town as much as we’d like to but we can make the most of our weekends. Reality is – our weekends usually consist of work, an overload of errands, and prior commitments.  If you can’t remember the last time you didn’t work on the weekend it’s time to change that! Today I’m sharing what I did to make this weekend memorable.

Unwind

On Friday nights, I usually like to rest and relax from the hectic week. The night usually consists of having dinner delivered and catching up on our favorite shows. Right now I’m getting into Homeland… I know, where have I been? If we don’t want to stay in, we usually go for happy hour. I think this downtime is so important in setting the tone for the weekend.

Try something new

So this doesn’t really count as “new” for us because we have already taken a few cooking classes but we do learn a new recipe every time we go! I really encourage everyone to take cooking classes regularly, even if you have your queue of meals in check and are an expert prepper. It’s really fun to attend the class since the step by step instructions are soooo easy to follow and you can just enjoy yourself. Each step is demonstrated and you learn new techniques that make cooking so much simpler. The ingredients are already measured and set aside for you and the best part… NO CLEANUP! For the same price you would have paid for dinner, these classes have the experience factor. You actively participate in a class, work with your partner, and enjoy a delicious meal. Alex and I like to take a bottle of wine! We save all the recipes so we can recreate them at home. So far we have only taken the classes offered at Sur La Table in Mizner Park but we are in search of a local cooking class that isn’t so far away. If you have any recommendations, please let me know in the comments below!

Make time for your loved ones

We’re in the middle of football season right now and Alex is a major fan, so my Sundays consist of going to Mass and spending the day watching football. I’ve never been much of a football fan but I really try to learn it so that Alex and I can enjoy it together. Remember it’s nice to be supportive and to show others that you care. What better way than to show interest in what they like? I add my own spin on Sundays and bake!

Get creative with your weekends and make the most of them! Who says you only need Out of Office responses when you’re getting out of town? Check out of work and check in to life.
