Guys, today is National Donut Day which might also be described as one of the best days ever (because who doesn’t want an excuse to eat donuts for breakfast?). Seriously, I think EVERYONE loves donuts. I mean, I have a stack of food magazines on my coffee table right now and the May issue of Bon Appétit has not left the top of that stack simply because a beautiful, mouth watering donut from Blue Star Donuts is on the cover.

Unlike other food holidays, there is an intention behind Donut Day. National Donut Day honors the work of WWI Salvation Army volunteers who bravely made their way to the front lines with donuts for the soldiers to boost their morale. Proof that donuts make everyone happy.

Velvet Creme Doughnut & Coffee Company
This local donut shop is definitely celebrating in the sweetest way possible. In a true celebration of Donut Day, Velvet Creme is in Coral Gables today and will be giving away over 150 dozen donuts to local police and firefighters. A donut shop that makes sweets and IS sweet? Now that’s a treat I’ll stand by every day!
Side note: Velvet Creme made these favors for my wedding and they were AMAZING!
The Salty Donut Artisanal Donut Shop & Coffee Bar
Hosting the first ever donut party I’ve ever heard of, this craft shop is kicking the holiday up a few notches! This party’s not open to every one thdough. Tickets are SOLD OUT. The lucky people who scored tickets will be enjoying some local bites… and obviously donuts. As for the rest of us? We’ll have to stand in line and pray they don’t sell out by the time it’s our turn!
Mojo Donuts
No, I don’t mean the Cuban marinade stuff! Although judging by how many flavors they’ve created I wouldn’t be surprised if they could successfully work that into a tasty donut. Sadly, no free donuts here but I’m sure they’ll still sell out in no time. They’ve made 2,000 of their hand made donuts in anticipation of lots of hungry donut enthusiasts walking through their doors today.
Krispy Kreme
Walk into any Krispy Kreme and walk out with one free doughnut. No purchase necessary and no fine print. You can have whatever you like but just one of it.
Dunkin’ Donuts
Coffee and donuts go together like peanut butter and jelly, wine and cheese, Alex and Katrina (ok, that last one is personal). Dunkin’ Donuts is giving you one free donut with the purchase of any beverage.
