How To: Incredible Poise

How To: Incredible Poise

The race to become the next POTUS is very heated right now. While I was watching the Republican National Convention there’s something that stood out to me in a very big way. Now before you navigate away from this article, know that it isn’t about politics. Nope, it’s not about that at all. Putting party affiliation aside, I can’t help but share my thoughts on how poised and gracious Ivanka Trump is at every podium she speaks from and every interview she is a part of. She has an irrepressible poise and I can’t help but want to have that too.

Poise is an easy self-possessed assurance of manner. It is gracious tact in coping or handling.

Having poise has nothing to do with wealth and everything to do with how you carry yourself. Here are five ways you can be incredibly poised and give yourself a confidence boost while you’re at it.

Standing tall isn’t only good for your health. It signals to those around you that you have confidence. Slouching brings you down in more ways than one – it drains your energy and undoubtedly won’t put you in the best mood. Good posture can significantly change the way you look, feel, and are perceived. Standing up straight automatically puts you in a confident, high-power position. Poise and posture go hand in hand. Stand tall. Shoulders back. Chin up. Be the beautiful confident person you are!

There are so many resources available to us. We have the power to learn literally at our fingertips. Listen to an interesting Podcast while you’re working, read up on a culture you find fascinating, or even challenge yourself to learn a new language. The point is to be knowledgeable about the things that interest you. You’ll always have something to talk about and striking up an educated conversation will be easy!

  3. BE NICE

It’s free to be nice. Seriously, it will cost you zero dollars. It surprises me how some people will even go out of their way to be mean sometimes. Why not strike up a quick conversation with someone in the elevator or hold the door open a few seconds longer for the person behind you? We have to interact with one another every day, so why not be nice about it? Everyone deserves respect and everyone deserves to be listened to.  If we all lived by this simple concept, the world would be a much better place.

It’s definitely fun to wear the season’s latest trends but every girl should have her own signature, classic style. It should be polished and put together. After all, you never know who you’ll run into! How you dress has an incredible impact on first impressions and how people perceive you. Once you find what you feel good in, stay true to it. Build your wardrobe around fashion staples and incorporate trends in a way that compliments you. Don’t wear something that will make your future self cringe!

We sometimes forget how fortunate we are. Give thanks continuously – for health, for a roof over our heads, for our jobs, the list goes on and on. Always remember to carry yourself humbly. Humility is a loaded word. It encompasses qualities like listening, good morals and values. Humble people put the needs of others first, think of themselves less, and have situational awareness.
